ASHA Foundation works for street animals and birds, providing free treatment in the city of Ahmedabad. Mr Harmesh Bhatt, a lawyer, started the ASHA Foundation when he was still a student in 2007. The facilities include a mobile clinic, an animal treatment building and a shelter.
There are now more than 60 cages and kennels for birds and dogs, cats and monkeys. In addition to this, there is also an area for education purposes set aside for group visits and talks.
Good news for 2019 ~ Work has begun to build a new animal hospital
To provide free treatment to all street animals and birds, removing them from pain and trying to give them a new and healthy life.
To make a great hospital for street animals and birds and start a sterilization project to reduce the city’s street dog population.
The people of the city phone the ASHA Foundation if they find a suffering street animal. The foundation operates 24 hours a day all year round as a free service. Depending on the situation, staff members either treat animals on the spot or transfer to them to the hospital-come-shelter for further treatment, observation and eventual release back to the place where they were found. The foundation gets up to 40-50 cases per day and is the only one of its kind in the city.
